Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-based multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and actuators (MLCAs) with Cu electrodes

Lead is a highly toxic element currently used by industry
in the fabrication of lead zirconate-based ceramic
capacitors and actuators. Another major concern is the
use of precious metals such as palladium (Pd) or
platinum (Pt) as the inner electrode material for
fabricating these MLCCs and MLCAs, which are very
expensive. Furthermore, conventional BaTiO3 -based
capacitors can only function up to 125 ∘C, indicating a
clear need for MLCCs with higher temperature durability.

Optionale Headline

We have developed an NBT-based MLCCs and MLCAs
with Cu inner electrode where it eliminates the
environmental toxicity concerns of lead-containing
materials, reduces manufacturing costs, and improves
high-temperature stability, thereby enabling device
functionality under harsher operating conditions. For
MLCCs, we can offer a permittivity of 600 in the
temperature range of 25 to 250 oC. For MLCAs we can
offer d33 of 180 pC/N and d33
* of 600 pV/m. The
maximum strain of 0.34 % can be achieved for our NBTbased
pellets.
