\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHeat pipes are used worldwide as efficient and passive
\r\nheat transport systems. Their performance relies on an
\r\ninternal capillary structure, which, however, only allows
\r\nsimple geometries without branching, since any
\r\ninterruption of the structure causes the transport
\r\nmechanism to fail. For applications with more complex
\r\ngeometries in space, only elaborate pumped systems
\r\nhave been available so far.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tWith FoamPipe, we have developed a novel thermal
\r\nmanagement system that replaces the conventional
\r\ncapillary structure of a heat pipe with a self-forming
\r\nliquid foam. This foam is generated inside the pipe by
\r\nadding surfactants and, for the first time, enables
\r\ncomplex, branched geometries with multiple heat
\r\nsources and sinks. As a result, heat transport becomes
\r\nmore flexible, lighter, and more reliable \u2013 especially in
\r\nmicrogravity. In addition, FoamPipe offers potential for
\r\nmore cost-efficient manufacturing and for use in
